Wind has been one of the most used power sources for hundreds of years. It was used to power ships that travelled to different countries and it was also used to power windmills that farms used. Back then they used wind power’s strength to move machines mechanically. Nowadays, we can harness wind power and use it more for than just mechanical energy. Wind power generators are machines that convert wind energy to electrical power usable in your households. Basically, a wind power system has 3 parts. First, it has a turbine which catches the wind’s kinetic energy. Second part is a moving and turning shaft which is connected to a rotor of a generator, which is the third part of the power plant. The generator turns the rotating energy into electricity which powers homes, offices and other establishments.
Until recently, wind power generators were only available for large wind power plants that retail their electricity. However, over the years people have been more conscious about how they can save their environment and that is why there has been an increase in demand for cleaner alternative power sources. There are websites that instruct how to construct small wind energy systems that can power their own homes. To set up a system would cost around a couple hundred dollars; a price slightly over how much a typical American household spends monthly on electricity. However, this should not discourage a typical family from purchasing a wind power generator because it is a very good investment that will produce free electricity for years to come.
